A satirical comedy about bureaucrats in the Soviet Union of the 1950’s. The virtuoso bureaucrat Petukhov finds himself in an incredible situation: upon his return home together with his bride, he discovers that he has been proclaimed dead, and on completely legal grounds. The fact is that the body of a man who died in a car accident (a pickpocket who stole a wallet from Petukhov) was mistaken for Petukhov. In an attempt to prove his existence, the hero tries to obtain a certificate that he is alive using usual bureaucratic means.

A student Shurik travels to the Caucasus in search of native legends and folklore. There he falls in love with a char-ming girl Nina. Suddenly she is kidnapped by a local gang of three planning to marry her to a local governor Saakhov. All the time naïve Shurik thinks that it is just an old Caucasian custom. When he, finally, realizes what has happened, he bravely rushes to free the Caucasian prisoner.

A funny story of three talented young men Andriy, Alyosha, Grisha and their girlfriends, Lyana and Paraskica. The heroes live, fall in love and work in a prosperous Moldovan collective farm in the mid-1950’s. Having won the republican amateur art competition in Chișinău, the friends are to go to Moscow, but it turns out that only their girl-friends will go there.

Tanya, Kostya, Misha and San Sanych go on vacation to the south in one compartment of the train Moscow – Yuzhnogorsk. Kostya gives Tanya a lottery ticket and helps to fill it. Not believing in luck Tanya gives the ticket to Kostya, who puts it in his book. After arrival, the paths of the compartment neighbors diverge. A few days later the newspaper publishes the results of a drawing, and it turns out that Tanya’s number wins a large sum of money. Unfortunately Kostya mixed up the copy of the book in which he had left the lucky ticket...
